Ever feel stuck in your faith? One sure fire way to get unstuck is to go on a mission trip. God will do amazing things in our hearts when we step out and serve others in His name. At Lifepointe we have a tradition of providing a variety of types of mission trips to each high student over the course of their time with us. MT07: rural missions to a Native American Reservation, MT08: urban missions on the city streets of New Orleans, and MT09: rural construction in the Blue Ridge Mountains of West Virginia.

This year's mission trip (MT10) will be our most adventurous and powerful yet as we travel outside the US to Guatemala to a slum in the middle of the Guatemala City called "La Lemonada." We have partnered with an organization called Lemonade International to minister to some of the poorest people in our area of the world. We will mainly be serving in local schools, ministering to the children who are living there. Although sexual abuse, drug use and gang activity are all expected in the area, we will only serve in the slums during the day and in groups with knowledgeable local staff. We will stay in a safe neighborhood away from the slum and take every precaution possible to ensure group safety. While safety is always a concern on mission trips, the larger concern is the extreme poverty which we will witness there. This trip may not suit every high school student and should be considered prayerfully as a family. Mature students will truly benefit from serving those who have so little and return home realizing how blessed they are. This is the kind of trip that moves students in their faith and will never leave them the same. If you chose to wait please know it is our plan to offer an international mission trip once every 4 years for high school students. We are also offering a special High School Mission Camp experience this year to Winston Salem NC which may better suit your needs. Both trips are open to all current 9th - 12th grade students.

If after reading the disclaimer above, the trip is still something you are interested in you should read Philippians 4:13. Don't shy away from this challenge. Use this as an opportunity to try something new, learn new skills, expand your worldview, serve Christ and grow in your faith. During the trip we will be working hard but we will also be involved in some worship, devotionals, having a blast and building lasting friendships.

The cost of this year's trip is approximately $850 per person which includes all fees, materials, transportation, lodging and food. You will also be responsible for obtaining a valid passport as well as any additional airline fees such as additional / overweight checked bags. We will be doing at least one fundraiser to offset the cost of the trip. The Student Auction Fundraiser is planned for this spring. Participation is not required however only those who participate will receive a portion of the funds raised. The online registration forms and $150 non-refundable deposits are due by 01/31/10. You can also do additional fundraising on your own to help further reduce the cost of the trip. Parents, students should be expected to pay some of this tip. Encourage them to start saving now!

Have you read all of the above and are ready to go?
